Thanks Detroit for voting us “Best Digital Record Label”!! …

Best Digital Record Label: Exchange Bureau
Daz-I-Kue, Chris de Luca, Jeremy “Ayro” Ellis, Phat Kat, Paul Randolph, Guilty Simpson, Simbad, John Arnold, Ibex, Dial81, Midnite Jackers and others make up the roster of this savvy young digital label. Exchange Bureau seems to quietly and efficiently conquer its quest to “unite the organic and electronic with a new collective of established and up-and-coming, Detroit-based musicians and producers all under one organization.” Artists on this label are some of the finest in house, funk, broken beat, techno, hip-hop and electro performers this city has to offer. “We really surprised ourselves with the vast amount of good music that we have released from Detroit,” Exchange Bureau co-founder Joshua Adams says, “and also the amount of attention from European producers wanting to join the label has been great.” EXB has put out a total of 20 releases boasting almost 100 tracks in 2009. We bless the collective heart of the Bureau for bringing their innovation, brilliance and drive to our iTunes libraries.

tony ollivierra – h.b.b./stingray w/ dj maxximus and izc dubstep remixes

The mechanically melodic “H.B.B.” kicks off Tony Ollivierra’s latest single to be released via Exchange Bureau, a double single that includes remixes by DJ Maxximus as well as IZC. Ollivierra, who has ditched his Ibex alter ego for this release, quickly attacks the listener with this infectious bass rambling that refuses to follow any preset parameters of what we’ve come to expect — not quite Ibex, not quite like anything we’re used to and nothing short of engaging and arousing in the same breath and beat. DJ Maxximus, a highly respected dubstep/grime producer and DJ who has recorded and released for the likes of Ambush and Warp, manages to extract the abstract dubstep qualities of Ollivierra’s work by remixing “H.B.B.,” plunging directly into a constantly shifting, constantly growing genre that has yet to be completely categorized.
