Before the track fully unfolds, you’ll trip over your tongue and shout “product of Portishead!” Who could blame you? Windsor’s Perilelle lyrical range and dark, industrial take on heavily hip-hop infused, Björk-esque beat backdrops don’t fall far from the genre Portishead helped put on the back (along with the likes of Sneaker Pimps and Massive Attack). But what truly separates Perilelle from the thick sea of imitators is her distinct vocals — Perilelle, a vocalist much more akin to Ella Fitzgerald than her generational predecessors.
